Position: Day of Event Staff

Established professional floral studio with a focus on weddings is in search of part time team members. The individual should be creative: willing to assist with events, social media, and basic floral design. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, articulate, flexible and organized. An eye for art, color, and appreciation for design is preferred. Willing to train the right candidate. This is a great flexible-bonus job. Many members of the team work full-time in other industries but enjoy a weekend to get creative. We have a lot of fun and laugh a lot at events. We need people that are problem solvers, punctual, pro-active, able to lift heavy objects, able to work on their feet for hours at a time, are friendly, patient, like working on a team, and can roll with things, especially the management style of an entrepreneur with mommy-brain.

Day of event is fun but a lot of hard (but fun) work. If you like this part of the job you’ll love the flowers, but floristry is not just flowers.

  • A pro-active problem solver

  • Wants to be on a team where everyone does everything, i.e. we all lug the boxes and sweep the floor

  • Ok with kids. Mine like to hang and chat at times

“The Real Job Description” as written by those that have lived it. Responsibilities – some general and some specific examples that are situational, but happen in some form or another:

  • Clean and scrub flower buckets (wear something you can get wet)

  • Process flowers aka take wet flowers out of water and cut leaves off (watch out for thorns)

  • Clean dried wax out of used candle containers (use the freezer, butter knife, anything you can find)

  • Carry buckets of flowers, tools, arrangements from basement studio to coolers in the garage

  • Pack car or truck with arrangements, buckets of flowers (and water), tools, candles, ladders, arbor, metal stands, anything Lindsay decides that she needs to have

  • Carry everything from van to where flowers are being set up....this could be a few feet or half a mile through the mud and up hills

  • Set tables with flower arrangements, candles, tea lights, and bud vases

  • Find a way to affix large branches (foraged from the woods) to columns

  • Detangle twinkle lights, find a way to wrap these in said branches so that they look pretty (don’t forget to hide the battery pack) all while balancing on a ladder in a fancy inn where properness is expected

  • Balance multiple ladders, in the middle of the woods (be sure to avoid roots) so greenery can be affixed to monster sized arch for ceremony

  • Remember to bring your own water and snacks

  • Be willing to manage and pick up lunch order when staff get hangry and can no longer function

  • Hold down trash bags full of greenery, when riding on the back of a boat taxi, so they don’t blow into the ocean

  • Pitch in and help the planner of the wedding when said planner can’t get out of her own way and hasn’t cleaned tables, leveled them, or thought through basic logistics

  • Affix massive amount of greenery to hanging fixture....involves working with hands straight above head

  • Find a way to pack various sizes of bud vases, with water and flowers balancing in them

  • Wrap boutonnieres and bridesmaids bouquets in ribbon

  • Walk into room where the groomsmen are gathered (usually half dressed) and hunt down their coats so boutonnieres can be pinned

  • Follow the designers around sweeping up flower remnants....Lindsay is not clean when she designs....oh and make sure you remember to pack the broom in the truck because it is always forgotten

  • Hold bridal bouquet, with one hand, in awkward position, so the boss can get the perfect picture before presenting it to the bride

  • Have groomsmen spit out gum, in your coffee cup, right before they walk down the aisle

  • Wear closed toe shoes...Lindsay has a tendency to drop her knife

  • Always have a stocked tool belt with zip ties and snips to assist the designer when she is balancing on a ladder

If you’ve made it this far that’s amazing!! Compensation based on experience but competitive with comparable jobs in this region. And did we mention we have fun?!
